On Tuesday, a doctors’ group representing government-run hospitals in Delhi said it will continue to protest the NEET-PG counselling delay until their demands are granted, calling for a complete shutdown of all healthcare facilities.
The Delhi Police imprisoned resident doctors of government-run hospitals who were protesting against the delay in PG NEET counseling. The cops held at least 12 protestors before releasing them. For the past few days, the protest has been led by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA).
FORDA issued a statement condemning the police action, calling it a “Black Day in the History of the Medical Fraternity.” “From today onwards, all healthcare institutions will be completely shut down.” We strongly condemn this atrocity and demand that our FORDA leaders and resident doctors be released immediately.”
“Police forcefully assaulted, pulled, and imprisoned resident doctors, the so-called “Corona Warriors,” who were peacefully demonstrating to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021. From today onwards, all healthcare institutions will be completely shut down!” stated the announcement.
If the matter is not handled soon, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has warned that it will be “forced to adopt direct democratic engagement alongside resident doctors.”
Later, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Meena said that on Monday, a group of resident doctors “without any authorized authority” blocked the BSZ Marg, the main road between ITO and Delhi Gate, and clogged traffic for more than six hours.”
He said in the statement that “they purposefully created a disturbance on the main road and obstructed both carriageways, causing difficulty and harassment to commuters and the general public.”
