The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has transformed ancient train coaches into eateries as part of a novel initiative to create jobs and offer tourists a high-quality experience.
The ancient coaches of Indian Railways are being retired from service as LHB carriages proliferate. The Railways has stopped operating these vintage railway cars, but they have been converted into coach eateries, according to a statement.
Additionally, NFR has begun adapting some of its outdated train cars so that they can be used as restaurants. A coach restaurant of this type has already been established by NFR at Katihar, and a second coach restaurant is already prepared to operate at the New Jalpaiguri station. Additionally, all of the necessary preparations have been made to open 15 more such coach restaurants throughout the five divisions.
In Alipurduar Division, the NF Railway has established seven such coach restaurants, one each in New Coochbehar, New Alipurduar, Madarihat, Lataguri, Chalsa, Raja Bhat Khawa, and New Malda. Included in this are the establishment of coach restaurants in the towns of Rangiya and Rangapara North in the Rangiya Division, three such coaches in the Lumding Division, two in Guwahati, and one in Diphu, while plans for a fourth coach restaurant in New Tinsukia in the Tinsukia Division have already been finalised.
It has been decided to open two coach restaurants, one in each of the Katihar division cities of Darjeeling and Jogbani. According to sources, the 43 spots where restaurants are planned across the N.F. railway are estimated to generate non-fare revenue worth more than 4 crores.
