Boria Majumdar, a renowned journalist, was banned for two years by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday for intimidating Wriddhiman Saha.
A journalist allegedly threatened the renowned India wicket-keeper for refusing to give an interview. In March of this year, he provided all the details to a BCCI committee investigating the incident. In a Twitter video, journalist Boria Majumdar identified himself as the person charged by Saha.
Following an internal probe, the BCCI has decided to suspend Boria Majumdar for two years after Wriddhiman Saha reported getting threats from the journalist earlier this year.
To investigate the matter and finalize the sanctions, the board formed a three-member committee consisting of BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and councillor Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
‘The BCCI committee studied the comments by both Mr Saha and Mr Majumdar and determined that Mr Majumdar’s acts were certainly in the character of threat and intimidation,’ said board CEO Hemang Amin in an email to members.
The committee was also formed with “the major concerns for consideration being to determine if the communications received by the journalist were in the type of menace and intimidation,” according to the report.
