Two of the 15 passengers injured in the severe mid-air turbulence event on SpiceJet’s Mumbai-Durgapur aircraft are being treated in a critical care facility, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). A SpiceJet spokesman had previously stated that eight of them who had been hospitalized had been released.
According to a PTI report, the aviation regulator said it was removing the flight’s crew, the aircraft’s engineer, and the in-charge of SpiceJet’s maintenance control center from the roster pending an inquiry.
According to the DGCA, the plane involved in the incident on Sunday is still grounded in Kolkata, but the remainder of the company’s fleet is operational.
SpiceJet stated its seat belt sign was on and that staff members made repeated statements advising passengers to stay seated on the flight. It also stated that the flight’s crew would not be “used” until the outcome of the investigation.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of aviation, said the situation was being handled with the utmost seriousness and deftness, and that the probe report would be released soon.
