Mehbooba Mufti, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, asserted on Wednesday that she was detained and was being prevented from traveling to Pattan, a town close to Srinagar, for a wedding. The Srinagar Police denied her assertion that her house arrest was related to Union Minister Amit Shah’s visit.
“I am placed under house arrest for merely wishing to travel to Pattan for a coworker’s wedding, while HM is marching around Kashmir beating drums of normalcy. One cannot even begin to understand the anguish of a commoner if an ex-fundamental CM’s rights can be suspended so easily “PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti wrote tagging Amit Shah and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
The assertion, however, was promptly refuted by the Srinagar Police. An official statement said, “It is clarified that there is no restriction of any form (of) travel to Pattan, travel to Pattan was at 1 pm as intimated to us. The Srinagar Police also noted on a picture sent by the PDP leader that the images were of “people who reside in the bungalow are locked within the gate. There are no restrictions or a lock. She is free to go anywhere.”
