Sufiya Khan, an Indian ultrarunner, has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the fastest time by a woman to complete the ‘golden quadrilateral’, covering 6,002 kilometres in 110 days, 23 hours, and 24 minutes. A network of national highways connects Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, forming the ‘golden quadrilateral.’
Sufiya began her journey on December 16, 2020, from the national capital. She completed the golden quadrilateral circuit on April 6, 2021.
On Saturday, the 35-year-old was awarded the title of ‘fastest female to run along The Indian Golden Quadrilateral Road.’
Guinness World Records quotes her as saying, “No, I did not consider giving up in the entire endeavour.” “Despite the numerous injuries that occurred during the run, my sole focus was on completing this effort in the shortest time possible.”
Khan is from the town of Ajmer in Rajasthan. She began running after leaving her ten-year job as a ground service assistant at Delhi International Airport.
Khan ran the Delhi Half Marathon in 2017, but the gold triangle was her first long-distance race (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur-Delhi). It took her 16 days, 1 hour, and 27 minutes to complete. She is a self-taught athlete who is now sponsored by Under Armour, a sportswear company.
