An attack in the United States left 21 people dead, 18 of whom were children and three adults, when a gunman opened fire inside an elementary school in Texas. It is also reported that the gunman was shot dead.
The massacre occurred at 12:15 p.m. local time after a gunman, believed to be a teenager, entered the primary school and started fire on teachers and pupils, killing up to 21 people.
The teenager, who is believed to have been armed with a handgun or rifle, opened fire inside the elementary school in Texas. He is also suspected of shooting his grandmother just before he entered the school. Apart from this, the details surrounding the shooter are scarce.
In recognition of the unfortunate tragedy, US President Joe Biden has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset every day until May 28. Later today, Biden is set to address the nation about the school massacre.
“Texans are grieving for the victims of this terrible atrocity & for the people of Uvalde,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted. Cecilia and I are devastated by this tragedy and urge all Texans to band together. I’ve directed @TxDPS and Texas Rangers to fully investigate this crime in collaboration with local law enforcement.”
