The Tibetan Youth Congress organised a demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy in Delhi to denounce the Chinese government’s zero-tolerance policy, illegal occupation, and long-standing mistreatment of Tibet. The rally was attended by about 70 activists and representatives of various regional TYCs from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and other places. They urged the Chinese government to swiftly address the problems of the Tibetan people and end its repressive practises in Tibet, including the systematic mass gathering of Tibetans’ DNA.
The Tibetan Youth Congress and its regional Chapters across the globe are commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China by opposing China’s ongoing oppression of Tibet. Security cameras, police checkpoints, and party officials continue to closely monitor the movements and activities of Tibetans in their daily life. In recent months and years, the Chinese government has made arbitrary arrests and detentions a frequent practise. TYC made a statement on the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the PRC, “especially targeting teachers, writers, and intellectuals who prioritise preserving Tibetan culture and identity, which are still being homogenised by the Chinese government.
“Nearly one million Tibetan children have been forcibly snatched away from their parents, forcing them to live in colonial boarding schools and cutting them off from their families, language, and religion,” TYC stated while describing the current state of affairs in Tibet. The Chinese government placed them in specially created Chinese Communist Party schools, where they are primarily intended to eradicate and wipe away the Tibetan culture and its identity and have no access to curriculums relevant to Tibetan culture.
Through a variety of monitoring tools, Chinese authorities continue to tighten their control over Tibetans. There have been rumours coming out of Tibet that Chinese authorities are mass-collecting DNA without the Tibetan people’s permission. The recent developments show unequivocally that the Tibetans are under more technology observation. Bio-security has been put in place by the CP as an organisation to control the populace, with a focus on people living in the occupied areas of Tibet, East Turkistan, and Southern Mongolia, they continued.
In reference to the COVID crisis in Tibet, TYC stated: “Since the COVID outbreak in Tibet, the COVID cases continue to rise, and many Tibetans are venting their resentment against the Chinese government on social media for failing to provide health care facilities and sufficient meals for people detained under the pretext of Covid prevention. Without routine testing, sick and healthy individuals are both isolated in the same location until the healthy individuals become infected.
“As the dictatorial Lockdown in Lhasa enters its final week, Tibetans are suffering from an increasing lack of basic necessities and abuse from the government. In light of the strict enforcement of the Chinese government’s Zero-Covid Policy, numerous Tibetans have reportedly been jailed for nothing more than posting internet images and videos relating to Covid. Five Tibetans reportedly committed suicide in three days as a result of China’s Zero-Covid policy, according to reports pouring out of Tibet, according to TYC.
The Tibetan Youth Council (TYC) stated in a statement to the Chinese government outlining the justifications for their protest and their demands, “Therefore, on this founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, we demand the Chinese government stop its hardline policies in Tibet and put an end to its arbitrary arrest, detention, and interrogation of Tibetans with baseless accusations. In order to improve their surveillance capabilities and subject Tibetans to widespread repressions, the Chinese Communist government is required to halt its systematic mass gathering of Tibetans’ DNA. We urge the Chinese government to respond right once to the complaints of the Tibetan people, who are still subjected to Chinese persecution and repression in the middle of the Covid outbreak in Tibet.
73 Tibetan activists and TYC members were held by the police after the demonstration in front of the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi; they will be released that evening.
