Uniswap price surges amid potential $100M UNI burn scenario

The price of Uniswap has recently risen above $5.20, following a dip to $4.87. This surge happens as the Uniswap community prepares to vote on an important governance proposal that could see the destruction of 100 million UNI tokens in the coming days.

As of Thursday, December 18, 2025, Uniswap’s price was approximately $5.24, reflecting a nearly 4% intraday increase as traders sought to capitalize on a rebound following previous lows of $4.87.

This upward trend comes after a recent drop below $5.40, spurred by Uniswap co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s sale of 1,400 UNI tokens, which initially pressured the token’s value down to $4.99.

However, bullish investors pushed the price back up to $5.30 earlier in the week as Bitcoin experienced significant gains. Yet, market dynamics shifted, leading to prices falling back below $4.90.

Currently, there is renewed buying interest, providing potential for a rebound as investors look to the upcoming governance vote that may impact the token’s future price trajectory.

Uniswap Prepares for Possible Destruction of 100 Million UNI Tokens

A key driver behind Uniswap’s price increase is the proposed “unification” governance initiative submitted by founder Hayden Adams, set for a vote on December 18, 2025.

The voting period is scheduled to begin on December 19 at 10:30 PM EST and conclude on December 25, enabling the Uniswap community to determine the protocol’s future.

If approved, this proposal would see the removal of 100 million UNI from circulation, along with adjustments to the fee switches for v2 and v3 pools on the mainnet.

“The fee switches for v2 + v3 will be activated on the mainnet and start burning UNI tokens, as well as Unichain fees,” stated Adams.

The outcome of this vote could represent a pivotal moment for Uniswap’s future price performance, especially after the token reached a high of $7.70 in mid-November.
