Mamata Banerjee announced the “wonderful news” on Twitter, attaching a media piece with the information.

“Amazing news for the state of West Bengal!” On the ‘Foundational Literacy & Numeracy Index,’ we came in first among larger states. She wrote, “I congratulate all teachers, guardians, and members of our Education Department on this excellent performance!”

The ‘Index on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy’ – a measure of literacy among children under the age of ten years – shows Bengal at the top and Bihar at the bottom in the ‘big states’ category.
