‘You are intoxicated by power’: Anna Hazare’s letter to Arvind Kejriwal over Delhi excise policy

Anna Hazare, a renowned social reformer and anti-corruption activist, attacked Arvind Kejriwal aggressively on Tuesday over the Aam Aadmi Party government’s excise policy, claiming that the Delhi Chief Minister had become intoxicated with his position or power of authority.

In his letter to Kejriwal, Hazare quoted the following from his own book “Swaraj,” which he had authored in 2012: “You wrote the book “Swaraj” before entering politics. You already had the foreword I wrote for the book. In the book, you made boasts about the Gramsabha and its alcohol policy. Whatever you wrote serves as a reminder.”

In his letter, Hazare cited paragraphs from Kejriwal’s book that discuss the issue of alcohol addiction in rural areas and potential solutions. In the letter, Hazare said, “You had written the book well, and I had high hopes for you.

“However, it appears that after entering politics and rising to the position of Chief Minister, you have forgotten these statements. Your newly developed excise policy appears to encourage the habit of alcohol addiction. The law may result in liquor stores in every region of the state. You choose to implement such a programme even though it may encourage corruption and work against the interests of the general public.”

“It appears that just as alcohol causes intoxication, so does power. Additionally, you have also been intoxicated by the power “In the letter, Anna Hazare stated.

You forgot that forming the political party was not the intention of our movement, Hazare said, bringing up the Team Anna meeting on September 18, 2012, where Kejriwal announced his intention to enter politics. “Seeing Delhi Excise Policy, it seems that the party that was formed by scrapping the historical movement has gone on the same path as other parties are treading, which is a very sorry matter,” he stated “.

“We first outlawed alcohol in Ralegan Siddhi village, which is why I’m writing you now. To change Maharashtra’s alcohol laws, we frequently protested. The movement resulted in the alcohol prohibition statute. An alcohol restriction will be enacted if 51% of the women in a village or city vote in favour of it “The letter says:
