An 11-year-old boy named Sonu Kumar sought support for his education from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday, in Nalanda district which is also Chief Minister’s ancestral village, the boy dragged all the attention of the midst of a large throng towards him.
That incident happen when Chief Minister was on the death anniversary of his wife Manju Sinha in Kalyan Bigaha, whose statue he garlanded inside a park named after his father Kaviraj Ramlakhan Singh. He was waving at people and receiving petitions from those who wanted to bring their complaints to his notice by passing through a blockade pathway, that’s when the boy, who lives in a nearby village under the same Harnaut block as Kalyan Bigaha, reached out to him with folded hands asking him to support him in his education.
“Sir, I need your support for my education. My father does not help me,” cried Sonu Kumar.
Then the Chief Minister ordered the officials attending him to listen to the child after he cried out for help from the crowd.
At the time Vaibhav Srivastava, who is the Deputy Development Commissioner, officiating as the District Collector, heard the story of the child, accompanied by a village elder who testified for the boy’s deserving of the honor.
“I study at a government school. The teaching standards are pathetic. My mathematics teacher has a problem with numbers and cannot manage basic English,” said Sonu.
He wishes to join the civil services, but lack of education and unconcern of his family came in his way.
“My father sells dairy items for a living. But he could not care less about my education. Whatever he earns he squanders on liquor and toddy,” the 6th standard schoolboy spoke to Chief Minister.
