In Maharashtra, at least 25 people have died as a result of the heat wave in the last two months, with Nagpur, the state’s vice-capital, accounting for the most deaths (11).
Northwest and central India had their hottest April in 122 years, with average high temperatures of 35.9 degrees Celsius and 37.78 degrees Celsius, respectively, due to insufficient rains brought on by weak western storms. The mercury soared to 46-47 degrees Celsius in several parts of the country during the last few days, setting new April highs.
On Monday, a heat wave is expected in portions of Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and west Rajasthan, according to the IMD.
A maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chandrapur, Maharashtra’s Vidarbha area.
During the next four days, isolated light showers, dust storms, thunderstorms, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph are extremely likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, according to the weather department.
