AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi was given central security cover by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday after a threat assessment.
Adding to his call for him to take the security cover provided by the Central Reserve Police Force, the Minister further added that he would have a bulletproof car and round-the-clock security cover in Telangana and Delhi.
In February 2022, the Delhi government had accorded AIMIM Chief a ‘Z’ security category after a firefight occurred at a toll plaza in Hapur, a city in western Uttar Pradesh, as he returned to Delhi from Meerut. The fighting had taken place at a kilometer-long toll plaza in Hapur, which is located in western Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Amit Shah said two people have been arrested and the Union Home Ministry has requested a report from the state of Uttar Pradesh regarding the firing at Owaisi’s carcade on February 3.
A complaint has been filed at the Pilakhua Police station in UP and the local police are handling the investigation meticulously and with all seriousness. Two unidentified people shot at the carcade. The driver came out safe, but three bullet marks could be seen on the lower part of the vehicle.
The security threat to his security has been assessed, and we have decided to provide him with security coverage. I request that he accept the security cover, Shah said, adding that he was offered central security in the past as well, but he refused.”
