Apple watch saved the life of a young Haryana man with its ECG capability

Recently, an Indian man’s life was saved by an Apple Watch. Apple’s smartwatches have a heart rate monitor, which could be quite useful for people who have health problems. Apple added ECG functionality to the Apple Watch Series 4 model.

AFib (Atrial Fibrillation) is a condition in which the heartbeat becomes abnormal. An ECG can detect this condition. The timing of AFib detection is crucial in combating it. It is curable if caught early enough. It can lead to heart-related issues such as strokes, heart failure, and blood clots if left unchecked.

Last Saturday, the Apple Watch saved the life of Nitesh Chopra, a 34-year-old dentist from Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar. Chopra noticed a pain in his chest on March 12th. He accessed the ECG app on his Apple Watch out of curiosity. To his surprise, it displayed an AFib alert, urging him to seek medical assistance right away.

Chopra had been experiencing chest symptoms, his doctor discovered that he had 99.9% artery blockage after using his Apple Watch to perform an ECG.

Chopra arrived at a local hospital to discover that the Apple Watch had saved the man’s life by detecting AFib. Chopra needed an angiography right away because his coronary artery was entirely occluded.

As a precaution, doctors implanted a stent in his heart. Chopra was so grateful to Apple that he wrote a letter to CEO Tim Cook praising him for creating the Apple Watch series. Cook, it turns out, wrote back to Chopra, writing: “I’m delighted you sought medical help and received the help you required. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. Take care of yourself. Best, Tim”
