Assam: African Swine Fever kills over 150 pigs in Sivasagar

African swine fever has caused up to 150 pigs to death in the Sivasagar district of Assam. The worst hit villages in Sivasagar, according to district officials, are Dehing Kalghar and Jalukonibari.

According to the District office of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, emergency measures have already been taken to stop the threat. The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department has urged the public to undertake prompt culling for the diseased pigs in order to limit future spread.

The Sivasagar District Administration is intervening to calm the situation on the other hand. According to instructions from the District Administration, the sale, stocking, and transportation of pigs is prohibited in Sivasagar town and the regions included in Sivasagar Revenue Circle. It is troubling that so many people are disobeying the rules and instead turning to complete recklessness just as the District Administration and the Animal Husbandry Department are starting to take action to regulate the problem.
