Assam’s flood situation remained dire on Thursday, with over 54.5 lakh people still affected and 12 new fatalities confirmed, according to officials.
Since mid-May, 101 people have died as a result of the flood, they reported.
The Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, as well as their tributaries, are in spate in the majority of the afflicted districts, and large areas of land are still under water in 32 of the state’s total 36 districts. However, there were some areas where the flood waters subsided.
The advisory states that during the day, the NDRF, SDRF, and other organisations evacuated 3,658 people around the state using 276 boats.
An official reported that the NDRF has saved around 14,500 marooned individuals in Assam’s 12 flood-affected districts.
Helicopters dropped packages today at flood-affected Silchar that contained food, water bottles, and other necessities.
In addition to the usual relief, we intend to keep doing these airdrops for our stranded individuals in the coming days says Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to Sarma, “our government is strongly behind the residents of Barak Valley”.
Meanwhile, the CM also took an aerial look of the worst-affected Barak Valley today.
In the Kamrup area, the water has breached two embankments and destroyed 218 roads and 20 bridges. 33,17,086 livestock and 99,026 hectares of cropland have been impacted.
According to the ASDMA, there have also been reports of significant erosion in Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nalbari, and Udalguri.
