Assam, Meghalaya may witness heavy rainfall in next two days; People asked to remain vigilant

According to IMD, heavy rain is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India in the coming days.

The administration here has issued an advisory based on a meteorological forecast from the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) that thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely on April 14 and 15 in isolated areas of the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.

As a result, the administration has asked the public to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

Ensure the safety of all objects that could be blown away in a strong wind, such as lumber stacks, loose tin sheets, loose bricks, garbage cans, sign boards, and so on.

If the lightning continues, turn off all electrical items such as an iron, cellphone chargers, and television sets.

During periods of severe rainfall, people must exercise extreme caution because flash flooding is a possibility, particularly in regions near rivers and streams.

People are asked not to approach moving water or walk through it, and to avoid streams, drains, culverts, rivers, and waterfalls, among other things.

To avoid electrocution, people should avoid driving through flooded regions and staying away from electric poles and powerlines. It is not recommended that they enter streams, rivers, or waterfalls.
