School & Colleges to remain closed in Puducherry due to heavy rain; Helpline number released

Heavy rains are expected to hit Puducherry today, according to the IMD. The state has ordered that all educational institutes be closed today due to safety concerns.

All schools and colleges to remain closed in Puducherry and Karaikal today in view of the heavy rain forecast.

As per IMD's forecast, Puducherry is likely to experience a 'generally cloudy sky with heavy rain' today.

Purva Garg, the Puducherry district collector, provided helpline numbers Wednesday, advising the people to contact them promptly in the event of an emergency.

In the event of an emergency, Garg advised the public to call the control room at the following toll-free numbers: 1031 (communications, law & order, and crime-related), 112 (emergency response support system), 1073 (traffic-related complaints), 1091 (women complaints), 1093 (coastal police emergency assistance), 1070 (natural calamities like flood/cyclone rescue complaints), 1912 (power restoration), 108 (medical emergencies & ambulance), 104 (maritime rescue sub-coordination centre, coast guard).
