Biplab Deb, Former Tripura CM, named in ‘fake CIA report,’ wife files complaint

Biplab Kumar Deb’s wife has filed a police report stating that a fake report ascribed to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is being shared on social media with her husband’s name included, according to news agency PTI. On Tuesday, the case was filed at the West Agartala Police Station, three days after Deb resigned as chief minister and before of the assembly elections next year.

Niti Deb said in her lawsuit that she got a WhatsApp message on Monday that was “totally untrue, defamatory, and full of incitement.”

“…On enquiry, I found that the WhatsApp number itself is fake and probably used unauthorisedly. The contents are attributed to Central Intelligence Agency, while on initial personal enquiry, I have grave doubts that the so-called report is actually non-existent and being circulated in the name of the ex-chief minister so as to create sensation and also infringe the security and sovereignty of the nation as a result of a deep rooted conspiracy,” she wrote in the complaint.

Subrata Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of the West Agartala Police Station, was asked about the allegation “It’s arrived with us. Various parts of the Indian Penal Code have been used to file a case. A probe has begun.” he stated

According to PTI, police have received a complaint and have filed a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, with an investigation currently underway.
