US officials claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin is weaponizing energy
A day after threatening to stop all energy supplies to the West if the US moved forwards with its gas limit, the White House has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is weaponizing energy.
On Wednesday, Putin threatened to altogether stop supplying energy to the West if that country tried to set a price restriction on Russian exports. He also promised to continue Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine until its objectives were met.
This demonstrates that Putin is once more turning energy into a weapon both through his words and deeds. However, the President (Joe Biden) and our European allies foresaw this game plan. We had been preparing for months because we foresaw this coming. At her daily press conference on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre remarked, “We have discussed the many modalities of how this price cap could appear.
She said that the US and EU have established a task force to investigate methods to expand alternative natural gas supplies to Europe and aid in lowering Europe’s reliance on Russian energy through improved efficiency and the deployment of clean energy.
“That is something we’re going to keep doing to aid Europe as they get ready for the winter. However, as we’ve seen, the task force’s procedure has already produced fruitful results. By the crucial winter heating season, Europe’s gas supply will be sufficient. Despite the Russian cuts, Germany will surpass its goal for gas storage earlier than expected. And Europe as a whole would surpass last year’s level greatly, she said.
