With a lead in at least 22 seats, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on its way to a clean sweep in Manipur. Heingang was won by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who is from Heingang. By roughly 18,000 votes, the senior BJP leader trounced his nearest rival, Congress’ P Sharatchandra.
The BJP is trailed by the National People’s Party (NPP), which has a six-seat lead, and the Naga Peoples Front, which has a five-seat lead, according to the Election Commission’s website. The Congress currently has only four seats, while the Janata Dal (United) now has four. In one, the Kuki People’s Alliance is in the lead.
According to official numbers, Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh has maintained a stable lead over his BJP opponent Leitanthem Basanta Singh in Thoubal by over 1,500 votes. Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh of the BJP is leading by 1,836 votes in Nambol, while Congress president N Loken Singh is following.
