A court challenge will be brought by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) against the MoU between Meghalaya and Assam to resolve their boundary disputes in six of the 12 districts.
The Council constituted a coordination committee, to be headed by Executive Member Jambor War, to prepare a report on the MoU before moving the court.

Pynshngain N Syiem, the Council’s leader of opposition, is on the committee, as are representatives from the five Himas affected by the MoU: Hima Jirang, Hima Nongspung, Hima Mylliem, Hima Jyrngam, and Hima Nonglang.
Following a meeting of the Council’s border committee on Tuesday, Syiem stated that once the boundary committee has studied the coordination committee’s report, the Council will file a petition in court contesting the MoU. “We’ll have to go to court,” he added, adding that the state administration is determined about not reviewing the MoU.
According to Syiem, the KHADC will go to court on the grounds that the state’s boundary is dependent on the Khasi states’ boundaries.
According to him, the Assam Reorganization Act of 1965 explicitly states that the autonomous state’s boundaries shall be set under the Constitution’s Sixth Schedule. According to him, the North East Reorganization Act of 1971 specifies that the new state of Meghalaya’s boundaries will be determined under Section 3 of the Assam Reorganization Act.
Bindo Lanong, a member of the border committee and a nominated MDC, said that once the dispute reaches the court, everything will come to a halt.
Metbah Lyndoh, the president of the United Democratic Party, will meet with CM to discuss the border deal. The UDP president Metbah stated on Tuesday that he will discuss the matter with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
“I’m waiting for the Chief Minister, and I’ll talk to him about the boundary issue because everyone is concerned about it.” I’ll speak with him, but it’ll be up to the government and him to investigate the situation and all of the issues raised by various parties,” Lyngdoh added.
