Bruce Willis denies giving an AI company his face rights
Bruce Willis denies giving an AI company his face rights. According to Deadline, the actor sold the rights to his face to a Russian deepfake business called Deepcake last week. This would have allowed them to build a “digital twin” for the actor, who retired in March after being diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects speech.
According to Deadline, Willis’ spokeswoman denied any form of partnership or deal with the corporation this weekend. This was confirmed by Deepcake to a British news site.
Artificial intelligence is used by deepfake firms to produce lifelike reproductions of famous people. Last year, a deepfake of Willis surfaced in an advertisement for a Russian telecoms company.
Deepcake claims to have worked with Willis on the AI for the ad and to have used a great testimonial from him on their website, but Willis’s representatives did not confirm this, according to Deadline.
This comes after ‘Star Wars’ veteran James Earl Jones turned up the rights to his unique Darth Vader tones to another AI business, Respeecher, last week, signalling his retirement from the role and passing the torch through the use of technology.
