Assam cabinet on Wednesday decided that only residents of Assam would be permitted to appear for Assam civil service (ACS) and Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exams.
The cabinet has also decided to dissolve the ‘language’ paper from the test to ease the selection process of candidates. However, there would be three conditions for a candidate to appear for the ACS and APSC tests.
Sarma said, “Since Assamese was compulsory for the candidate to sit for test of ACS and APSC creating problem for many local students studying in English medium, the state cabinet has decided to withdraw the language paper from the ACS and APSC tests. However, the candidate must be able to speak Assamese, any other associate language of the state or ethnic languages like Tiwa, Mising or Bodo etc.”
The chief minister added that it was also made compulsory for the candidates to have registration in the state’s employment exchange too.
“This will restrict outsiders from the state to appear for such job tests,” he added.
The chief minister also announced that the state government would set up a ‘Youth Commission’ in the state to prepare the educated youths of the state for national level courses.
