Numerous computer operators from Rajasthan who identified themselves as members of the Gram Panchayat E-Mitra Sanchalak Sangh Samiti arrived at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Saturday. They then staged a sit-in protest outside the Gujarat Congress office.
The union asserted that the Congress administration in Rajasthan has ignored the demands of 11,341 e-Mitra plus operators who operate at gramme panchayat offices in Rajasthan and have raised a number of issues, including the payment of honoraria for their labour and arrearages of dues.
If their demands are not met, the union warned to campaign against the Congress in the next elections in Gujarat and to halt the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On October 2, some union members embarked on a “Dandi March” from Palanpur to protest the Rajasthan government’s inaction. On Saturday, the protesting union members arrived in Ahmedabad.We have frequently made requests of the Rajasthani government authorities, but there has been no reaction, Sitaram Kumavat, state vice-president of the union, told the Indian Express. We made the decision to travel to Gujarat with our demands because Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan MLA Raghu Sharma are observers selected by the Congress for the Gujarat elections. We shall run a campaign against Congress in the upcoming elections in Gujarat if our demands are not met. We will stop and protest the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra if they still refuse to answer our demands. We have no political agenda; our demands are all that matter to us.Kumavat added that the union has requested police permission to carry on its protests in front of Ahmedabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, which serves as the headquarters for the Gujarat Congress. We believe Ashok Gehlotji will visit Gujarat soon since he is the observer. Until then, we will continue to demonstrate in Gujarat, Kumavat added.
