Dhoni has petitioned the Madras High Court for contempt proceedings against an IPS officer

Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has petitioned the Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against IPS officer G. Sampath Kumar for allegedly making remarks against the Supreme Court and the Madras High Court over match-fixing. On Friday, the plea will be heard. It was not, however, taken up for hearing until the end of the day. Dhoni filed a legal complaint in 2014 to prevent Kumar, who was the Inspector General of Police at the time, from making any comments about him or linking him to the match-fixing allegations.

On March 18, 2014, the Madras High Court issued an interim order prohibiting the officer from making any statements about Dhoni. According to the cricketer, the officer allegedly filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court criticising the judiciary and top attorneys representing the state. Dhoni sought permission from Tamil Nadu's Advocate General, R. Shanmugasundaram, to file the contempt application, which he did before Madras High Court.
