Although it wasn’t part of the plan, it was entirely legal: Harmanpreet’s contentious exit

During the most recent ODI series, India did not want to run out England batter Charlie Dean when she was backing up, but it was quite legal, captain Harmanpreet Kaur said on Friday.

Last week, Deepti Sharma completed the contentious Dean run out to seal India’s 3-0 victory over England.

The form of dismissal is now specified under the laws’ Unfair Play section, however as of October 1 when an update to the ICC Playing Conditions takes effect, it will be moved to the Run Out section.

Deepti said that she had repeatedly cautioned Dean before removing the bails upon her arrival in India. Heather Knight, the captain of England who missed the entire series owing to an injury, charged Deepti with lying.

Prior to the Women’s Asia Cup, Harmanpreet backed Deepti’s performance and felt it was time to move on.

“These factors came up in the last few of games, which we noted. She was using unfair advantage and long strikes, and Deepti knew when she removed the bails “explained Harmanpreet.
Everyone was there to win the game even if it wasn’t part of the plan. Every time you are on the ground, your goal is to prevail at any costs. To play by the rules is the most crucial thing. Every action we took was in line with the regulations.

Harmanpreet stated, “We need to move forward. Whatever occurred, it was not intended to happen.

In their opening game in the women’s Asia Cup on Saturday, India takes on Sri Lanka.
