Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Assam were all hit by tremors. The earthquake was felt as far away as Kolkata, according to witness statements on the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) website.
The earthquake struck Bangladesh 183 kilometres east of Chittagong. The quake happened at 5.15 a.m., according to the Seismology Center. A second earthquake hit at 5.53 a.m., according to reports.
