Equal compensation for centrally contracted male and female players is announced by BCCI

In a historic move to combat gender discrimination, the BCCI on Thursday approved equal match fees for its centrally-contracted male and female players. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, made the announcement on Twitter. "I'm happy to announce @BCCI's initial effort to combat discrimination. We are putting into effect a pay equity policy for the @BCCIWomen cricketers we have contracted.

As we enter a new era of gender equality in cricket, Shah tweeted, "The match price for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same." According to the recently implemented scheme, Indian women's cricket players will now receive the same compensation as their male counterparts: Rs 15 lakh every Test, Rs 6 lakh per ODI, and Rs 3 million per T20I. The female cricketers from the BCCI will receive the same match fee as the male players. Test ($15 lakh), ODI ($6 lakh), and T20I ($15,000) (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was a promise I made to our female cricket players, and I appreciate the Apex Council's backing, Shah continued.
