First case of Omicron’s new sub-variant XE detected in Mumbai: BMC

In Mumbai, the first case of Omicron’s new sub-variant XE was discovered. There was also a case of the Kappa variation. The results came from the 11th batch of testing in the genome sequencing facility, which included 376 samples. 228 of the 230 samples from Mumbai are Omicron variants, with one being Kappa variant and another being XE variant. The people infected with the new strains of the virus are stable. The latest mutant, according to the World Health Organization, may be more transmissible than the previous ones.

The XE mutant looks to be 10% more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron, according to the official. BA.2 has been declared the most contagious of all COVID-19 variations thus far.

The XE variation, often known as a “recombinant,” is a mutation of the BA.1 and BA.2 Omicron strains. According to preliminary research, the XE version has a growth rate of 9.8% higher than BA.2, commonly known as the stealth variety due to its ability to avoid detection. PTI
