Willbornson Wahlang's victory in the MTB Downhill Hardtail men's competition at Malki Forest here on Saturday gave Meghalaya its first gold medal at the 2nd North East Olympic Games.

Amedius Therlang Marbaniang and Nicholas Syrti, two cyclists from Meghalaya, won silver and bronze in this particular category as well. The top three were separated by just two seconds, with Wahlang finishing the race in 2 minutes, 23 seconds before Marbaniang (2:24) and Syrti (2:25). (2:25).

Lindum Iakia of Arunachal Pradesh won the women's open cross country event in 9 minutes, 42.00 seconds, followed by Pangambam Priya Devi and Haomon Urbashi Devi of Manipur in second and third place, respectively, in 9:43.44 and 9:48.10.

On Friday, AZ Thotmachan of Manipur won the junior competition's gold medal. Pynshailang Khyllait of Meghalaya placed second, and Vanlalruata of Mizoram finished third. Manipur's Khundrakpam Ronel Singh took home the gold in the elite men's cross country, followed by Mesak Vanlalvena of Mizoram and local favourite Kevin John Khyllait.
