Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, has advised government doctors against dispensing branded drugs. The warning came as Baghel was reviewing the Shri Dhanwantari Generic Medical Store Scheme, which aims to ensure that low-cost pharmaceuticals are available to the general public.
According to the state public relations department, there are 159 stores functioning under the scheme in the state, and roughly 1.79 million consumers have saved Rs17.38 lakh, thanks to the drugs sold there.
Authorities added that all district collectors have been given instructions to guarantee that doctors at government hospitals only prescribe generic drugs.
“Until now, the town and country planning department had the authority to pass the layouts,” an official explained, “but now municipal corporations have been authorized to do so.”
