The weather service has alerted Delhi and several other north Indian states, including Haryana and Rajastan, to prepare for heatwave conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, as some regions of the country experience exceptionally high temperatures in March.
With temperatures already rising, it is expected that summers will be even hotter. The IMD (India Meteorological Department) indicated in its daily bulletin that temperatures in east Rajasthan, south Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand were anticipated to exceed 40 degrees.
According to news agency PTI, Delhi saw the hottest day of the season on Monday, with a temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius, seven degrees more than the season’s average.
On Tuesday morning, the air quality in the nation’s capital, which has long been a source of concern, remained in the poor category (reading 272). On Wednesday, the city will also experience a heat wave.
A heatwave is expected to grip at least 10 districts in Jharkhand for three days starting Wednesday, according to weather department authorities. Districts affected include Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Simdega, East and West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharswan.
