Parts of the national capital had temperatures of over 45 degrees Celsius on Friday, bringing the heatwave back to the city.
While the maximum temperature in Najafgarh was 46.1 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperatures in Jafarpur and Mungeshpur were 45.6 and 45.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, six degrees above typical for this time of year.
Pitampura was also hit hard by the heat, with a high of 44.7 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange signal for Saturday, predicting a severe heatwave in many parts of the capital. A heat wave warning has been issued for Sunday.
On Saturday, the temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory is expected to reach 44 degrees. Temperatures could reach 47 degrees Celsius in isolated areas, according to weather specialists. Next week, a cloudy sky may bring some reprieve from the extreme heat.
