Heavy rains lash K’taka, flooding highways and closing schools & colleges

As torrential rain continued to pour down on Karnataka on Monday, the roadways were flooded and schools and institutions closed for the day.

For the next four days, the state is expected to see incessant rain, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Belagavi, Gadag, Koppal, Haveri, Dharwad, Ballary, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, and Ramnagar districts have been placed on yellow alert.

In the neighbouring Chamarajanagar district, a holiday for schools and institutions has been declared following significant rains.
The usual life in Mysuru and Mandya districts has been impacted by the recent heavy rains.
Vehicle traffic on the Mysuru-Bengaluru route was also hampered by heavy rain. The situation of the highway has been brought up in complaints made to the Union Minister for Highways via Twitter.

In Mysuru, Koppal, and Ballary districts, rain-related disasters have claimed the lives of five people.
The state’s agricultural land has flooded thousands of acres.
The mud Ganesh idols that were erected in public spaces have been demolished in a number of locations.
