IAS officer apologizes for comment about “condoms next” to a school girl in Patna
Following receiving scathing criticism for inquiring as to whether “she wanted condoms also,” a Patna schoolgirl “IAS officer Harjot Kaur Bhamra apologized in public on Thursday after the latter requested inexpensive sanitary napkins, adding, “I express sorry if my comments hurt any girl’s sensibilities. I had no desire to degrade anyone or offend anyone’s feelings “.
She eventually asked the IAS officer if they could get sanitar napkins for a lower price, to which a number of praises were received. Nevertheless, the IAS seemed upset and asked if the demands would ever end. She retorted, “Today you are asking for sanitary, tomorrow you will require jeans, then excellent shoes, and when the subject of family planning comes up, you will ask for condoms too.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) became aware of the situation and requested a written justification for Bhamra’s comments to the students. Bhamra also serves as the MD of the Bihar Women and Child Development Corporation.
