India earned a total of five medals—three gold and two silver—at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), which was held in Kutaisi, Georgia, on Monday.
A total of 209 students from 37 main and six guest teams, as well as 24 students from six different nations who participated in the online mode, competed in the Olympiad, which took place from August 14 to August 21.
India and Singapore were tied for third place in the medal count, behind Iran’s official team (5 gold) and guest team (4 gold, 1 silver). For the finest response to the most difficult theoretical problem, Raghav Goyal received a special award, according to the Department of Atomic Energy.
Raghav Goyal from Chandigarh won the gold medal, Md Sahil Akhtar from Kolkata won the silver, Mehul Borad from Hyderabad won the bronze, Malay Kedia from Ghaziabad won the silver, and Atharva Nilesh Mahajan from Indore won the silver.
Professor Sarita Vig from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, Professor Ajit Mohan Srivastava from the Institute of Physics in Bhubaneswar, and two Scientific Observers, Dr. Shriharsh Tendulkar and Tejas Shah from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, were all with the Indian students (Fr Agnel Multipurpose School & Jr College, Navi Mumbai).
