India and China's Corps Commanders Agree That The Western Sector Should Remain Stable
According to the MEA statement, the two sides agreed to keep close communication, continue their dialogue through diplomatic and military channels, and find a mutually agreeable solution to the outstanding concerns as soon as possible.
On December 20, India and China convened the 17th Corps Commander Level Meeting at the Chushul-Moldo border crossing point on the Chinese side and decided to keep the Western Sector secure and stable.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), "in the interim, the two sides agreed to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the Western Sector."
According to the MEA statement, the two sides agreed to keep in close contact, maintain communication through military and diplomatic channels, and resolve any outstanding concerns as soon as possible through a mutually acceptable manner. The two sides "exchanged perspectives on the resolution of the relevant issues along the LAC in the Western Sector in an open and constructive way," the ministry continued, "building on the progress made after the last meeting on the 17th July 2022." The two sides had an open and thorough discussion while adhering to the direction given by the State Leaders to work toward the earliest resolution of the outstanding issues, which would aid in the restoration of peace and tranquilly along the LAC in the Western Sector and allow for advancement in bilateral relations.
Following the most recent border clash in the Yangtse region of the Tawang sector, the Corps Commander Level Meeting is now in its seventeenth round.On December 9, PLA troops attempted to unilaterally alter the status quo in the Yangtse region of the Tawang sector by violating LAC.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed both Houses of Parliament about the incident and said that Indian forces resisted the Chinese effort with firmness and resolve.
