After starting the campaign to fight the deadly pandemic that has claimed more than 5.25 lakh lives in the country so far, India reached a significant milestone in its vaccination programme against COVID-19 on Sunday when the total number of doses administered exceeded the 200-crore mark.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the nation’s citizens in a tweet for accomplishing this important goal. “Unparalleled in magnitude and speed,” he said of India’s vaccine campaign.
The UNICEF and WHO both praised the endeavour, calling it a great achievement and a monument to the tenacity and commitment of India’s health personnel.
Additionally, as of last Friday, all adults in India are receiving free booster doses.
In honour of the nation’s independence day on August 15th being celebrated for 75 years, the drive will continue 75 days. Up until this point, the only individuals eligible for free booster doses were frontline employees, health professionals, and those over 60. Others have to foot the bill. After cutting the interval between the second and third doses of the vaccine from nine months to six months, India made the decision a few days prior.
