West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar resigns, Manipur governor to assume charge

Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday resigned as the Governor of West Bengal to file a Vice President nomination on Monday. His resignation letter has been accepted by President Ram Nath Kovind. And for the time being, the Governor of Manipur, La. Ganesan has been appointed to discharge the functions of the West Bengal Governor.

This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda on Saturday announced that Jagdeep Dhankhar will be NDA’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election.

With National Democratic Alliance (NDA) choosing West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for the post of Vice President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness and said “Glad that he will be our (NDA’s) VP candidate”.

Earlier on Sunday, Dhankhar met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda in Delhi. He also called on Defence Minister Rajnath.

The Election Commission made an announcement of the elections for the 16th vice president of India to take place on August 6, 2022.
