“India earned freedom with us, can construct its foreign policy…”, Imran Khan praises India

The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, once more expressed his annoyance with the Shehbaz Sharif administration by praising India.

The cricketer-turned-politician can be heard stating in a video of a huge rally in Lahore, “If India, that earned freedom with us, can construct its foreign policy to meet the requirements of its people and secure self-reliance, then who are these people…who say “beggars are not choosers,”

Khan discussed India’s decision to continue buying oil from Russia despite pressure from the West during the conflict in the Ukraine at the event on Saturday.

“The US advised India to stop purchasing oil from Russia. The US has India as a strategic ally. At the ceremony, Khan declared that Pakistan and the US had no alliance.

When he was questioned about India’s choice to keep buying oil after the conflict in Ukraine began, he was making reference to S Jaishankar’s comments from a few months earlier concerning Europe’s dependency on Russian energy.

In a clip played out by Imran Khan, S. Jaishankar is heard saying, “They (the West) squeeze every other source and then beg us not to be dependent on Russia.” The comment at the time had won plaudits for India’s foreign minister.
