Assam CM Says Internet Will Be Suspended At The Time Of Direct Recruitment Exam Hours

On Wednesday, Himanta Bishwa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam said that internet services will be shut off for four hours on the 21st of August and 28th of August as the state will be under the conduct of a Direct recruitment exam across several districts of Assam. A total of 14,30,337 candidates are expected to take part in the written exams for Direct Recruitment in Assam, which is one of the largest
such recruitment drives in the state.

The decision is taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the government exam. The exam timing is the same for both days. The exam will be conducted from 10 am to 12 pm for the first half and 2 pm to 4 pm for the second half. “The first exam will be held on August 21 from 10 am to 12 pm and again from 2 pm to 4 pm. The same timings will be repeated on August 28 as well. For smooth conduct of the exams, we will shut down mobile internet during duration of the exams in districts where they will be held,” the CM said over a virtual meeting with deputy commissioners and other stakeholders. Sharma apologized to the people of Assam for the trouble it will cause but he also mentioned that the decision is taken for the overall good of the recruitment exam. “I would like to apologize to the public for the inconvenience. But while mobile internet will be shut down, wired internet will be available.

It is important that we take this measure because if someone sends out the question paper on WhatsApp during the exam, there will be a lot of hues and cries and we don’t want to take any risk,” he added. One nodal officer will be appointed in every district where the examination will take place along with a Gazetted officer who is an observer in the examination center. A sub-inspector-level police officer will also be engaged in each examination center and will be assisted by other police personnel.

There will be two videographers to record the entire examination. The district police chiefs where exams will be held are also asked to keep their intelligence network active. The decision has been taken to prevent irregularities during the examination which was usual in the past.
