On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent Sonia Gandhi his condolences for the loss of her mother. Paola Maino, Gandhi’s mother, passed away on Saturday at her residence in Italy, and her funeral was held on Tuesday, according to the Congress.
“Condolences to Sonia Gandhi Ji on the passing away of her mother, Mrs. Paola Maino. May her soul rest in peace. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the entire family,” Narendra Modi tweeted.
Sonia Gandhi’s mother was in her 90s. The leader of the Congress had gone to see her ill mother on August 23. While already in Italy, Sonia Gandhi paid a visit to her hometown with her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and son Rahul Gandhi.
