JNU Students Protest Against Mass Clashes Over Non-Vegetarian Food In Hostel

Violence occurred at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in the campus on Sunday afternoon between two groups of students, allegedly over meat being served in the hostel canteen.Six students were injured in the incident that took place at Kaveri hostel at 3:30 in the afternoon.

The JNUSU alleges that the members of ABVP assaulted the mess secretary and stopped the staff from serving meat dishes in the hostel.

The student wing of the BJP’s ideological mentor, the RSS, said that their pooja was disrupted by people from the left.

Both ABVP and JNUSU have accused each other of pelting stones and injuring their members.

“There is currently no violence at the university. The protest has ended and police are maintaining peace. We were asked by the university to come here, and we are doing what we can to keep everyone calm.”Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Manoj C was quoted saying by news agency PTI.

“Students criticized the mess committee – claiming that they were forcing and attacking them – in order to change the dinner menu and exclude non-vegetarian items.”
