Scuba divers put an underwater image of the late Captain Vikram Batra, a Param Vir Chakra awardee and Kargil war hero, at the Pangode Military Station in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district as a tribute. The honour was paid as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations on Tuesday, and the team of scuba divers was headed by artist ‘Da Vinci’ Suresh.
A video uploaded on Twitter by the Press Information Bureau shows scuba divers using tiles to put the picture on the base of a swimming pool. The drone footage captures Captain Batra’s entire image.
According to PTI, the portrait set a Universal Records Forum world record. According to the news agency report, the artist and crew of Bond Water Sports Private Limited scuba divers received a memento from the station commander on the same day, citing a defence statement. A wreath was laid and tributes were given to Kargil war heroes at the Pangode War Memorial. Kargil Vijay Diwas is held on July 26 to commemorate the nation’s triumph over Pakistan in the Kargil conflict in 1999.
The principal guest of the occasion, Station Commander of Pangode Military Station, handed over a souvenir to the artist and team of Bond Water Sports Pvt Ltd, according to the statement, adding that a military band show was also organised as part of the celebration.
Every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to commemorate the country’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999.
