Suraj Vashisht, a young wrestler from India, made history at the U-17 World Championship. He won gold in the 55 kg weight class in wrestling. In the final, Suraj defeated Farim Mustafayev of Azerbaijan 11-0. Suraj is the third Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win a gold medal in this event. Pappu Yadav had won the gold medal for the country 32 years ago.
Suraj’s Under 17 Wrestling Championship victory is remarkable. After 32 years, he has finally won a gold medal for India in this competition. Pappu had previously won gold in 1990. India has won the tournament’s third gold medal. Vinod Kumar won gold for India before Pappu in 1980. When it comes to Suraj’s match, he got off to a fast start.
