Law and order in Assam is "good," and the insurgency is declining, according to the chief minister

Assam's performance in upholding law and order has been "outstanding" recently, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state's chief minister, who was speaking on Thursday at the "Chintan Shivir on Internal Security," which was hosted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and held in Surajkund, Haryana.

Sarma noted that there haven't been any significant insurgency-related incidents in Assam recently and added that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has also been repealed in 65 percent of the state's territory.Sarma focused on "proactively implementing" the Bodo Accord and treating cadres who had turned themselves in. Although a new Bodo militant group with the name and appearance of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was established on September 15, 2021, all of the group's cadres were forced to surrender on September 29, 2021 as a result of the police's preemptive measures, according to him.

The chairman and deputy chief-in-command of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), another Bodo militant group, as well as other cadres were captured by police, the chief minister said.

On October 20, 2021, the state administration and the group agreed to a cease-fire.On September 28 of last year, 164 members of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB), another Bodo insurgent group, as well as a top Maoist cadre, surrendered.

The Assam Police, which the chief minister described as a "professional police force with a glorious past," was praised for its accomplishments. In May of this year, the Assam police received the coveted "Presidential Colours." Several chief ministers, deputy CMs, state home ministers, lieutenant governors, and administrators of union territories are present at the first "Chintan Shivir" (introspection session) organised by the ministry of home affairs to provide a common forum to discuss ways to deal with internal security challenges as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Vision 2047."
