Since June 1, 76 people have died in Maharashtra due to rain-related incidents, nine of them within the last 24 hours, according to the State Disaster Management Department.
Heavy rainfall has been observed in several parts of Maharashtra over the past few days. The state’s rehabilitation department and the department of emergency management said 838 houses were damaged, 4,916 people relocated, and 35 relief camps were set up.
Maharashtra has also lost 125 animals due to rain/flood-related incidents since June 1. A flood-like situation has been reported in different areas of the Gadchiroli district in the state, according to ANI.
In a weather forecast report issued earlier on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rain showers in several Indian states.
On Tuesday, a house was destroyed by a landslide that occurred in Panchsheel Nagar in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, during a period of severe rain. In the Satara district of Maharashtra, another landslide was recorded on Wednesday close to Pratapgarh Fort.
The warning level has been achieved in a number of rivers in the state. The water level of the Amba, Savitri, Patalganga, Ulhas, and Garhi rivers is just below the warning level, while the Kundalika River has crossed it.
