Mawlynnong village in East Khasi Hills district, known as Asia’s cleanest village, has put yet another feather to its cap by winning the silver award for the nation’s “Best Eco Tourism Destination.”
The honour was presented to the Meghalaya government representatives at the recent dazzling Outlook Traveller Awards 2022 ceremony held in New Delhi. The event is regarded as the “ultimate standard” for competence and quality in the travel and tourism sector.
A group of expert jurors from many sectors of the industry and from government organisations selected the recipients using strict global tourism criteria. G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism and Culture and Development of India’s North-Eastern Region, presented the awards.
Along with Mawlynnong village, Meghalaya is home to the renowned “Shillong to Sohra route,” which was nominated one of the “Best Scenic Roads in India.”
Speaking of the accomplishment, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasised that tourism has the potential to both advance grassroots development and bring in development. This recognition from a reputable source like Outlook Traveller is proof of the Meghalaya government’s unwavering dedication. Going forwards, Meghalaya will undoubtedly become the top ecotourism destination not just in India but also globally, he continued.
